H.V. Pat Reilly
Director Emeritus of the Aviation Hall of Fame and Museum of NJ, Pat Reilly is a
noted aviation historian, noted writer and public speaker whose background
includes working as a public relations writer for Pan Am, the United States
Ship Line and the afore mentioned museum at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey
till retirement in 2004.
His fascination with aviation history lead him on to becoming the founding
father, prime fundraiser and 30-year director of the museum. With seemingly
tireless energy Pat toured the state almost daily giving educational talks to
schools and civic groups.
Pat’s collections at the museum varied to include a full scale Korean War MASH
display; a retired airliner, an early Coast Guard helicopter and countless
static displays that have fascinated visitors since the museum opened.
The original museum was located on the walk-up fifth floor of the airport’s first control tower, famed by early TV star, Arthur Godfrey who buzzed the air
traffic controllers when they disagreed with him.
Despite heart problems, Pat and his faithful lab, Ruby climbed the five flights
for many years to keep the museum doors open.
